We believe every child deserves financial confidence
This is how we started, and why we're doing things differently.
The beginning
It was 2022. A parent in Bristol asked a simple question at a school meeting: "Why aren't our kids learning about money?"
The room went quiet. Teachers nodded. Parents agreed. But nobody had an answer.
That parent was our founder. Within six months, darkwave-shard was born.
Our approach
We don't teach finance the way banks do. We teach it the way kids actually learn.
Through stories. Through games. Through real scenarios they'll face in their own lives.
No lectures about macroeconomics. No textbooks about fiscal policy.
Just practical, useful knowledge that they can apply immediately.
Who we work with
Our programmes serve children and teenagers across Bristol, from ages eight to seventeen.
We've worked with families in Clifton, Bedminster, Redland, Southville, Bishopston, and beyond.
Some come to us because they want their kids to have opportunities they never had. Others come because they've seen friends struggle with debt and want to break the cycle.
All of them leave with skills that schools simply don't teach.
What drives us
Every time a child tells us they've started saving. Every time a teenager opens their first investment account. Every time a parent says "I wish I'd learned this when I was their age."
That's why we do this.
We're not just teaching financial literacy. We're changing the trajectory of young lives.
See what we teachLooking ahead
We started small. A handful of workshops in community centres.
Now we're running regular programmes across Bristol, with hundreds of families joining each year.
But we're just getting started. Because there are thousands of children in this city who still need these skills.
And we won't stop until every young person in Bristol has the chance to build financial confidence.
